Mountain sports
A Munro is a Scottish mountain above 3,000 ft or 914.4m. They take their collective name from Sir Hugh Munro who first published his tables in 1891, identifying around 280 peaks when the conventional wisdom had always been that there were probably only 30 mountains in Scotland above 3000ft.
Mountain guides can be arranged from the hotel to lead walkers up these mountains - some of the Munros require specialist equipment and knowledge.
Within 30 miles of the hotel there are two of the major ski centres in Scotland: Glenshee and The Lecht.
Glensee stakes its claim as Scotland's most extensive ski area with more than 25 miles (40km) of downhill runs, reached by a scenic drive along the A93 south of Braemar, Scotland's highest main road.
The Lecht is a much more compact centre, ideal for beginners and families, it also has a range of summer activities available.
Instruction, equipment hire, refreshment facilities all operate in the skiing season, which varies from year to year but can be as early as December and as late as April.
