The hotel is surrounded by some of the most picturesque scenery Scotland has to offer, being located at the edge of the Highlands in the heart of Royal Deeside. With the Cairngorm Mountains in the distance and the flatter glens in between, the area is a must for walkers, golfers, skiers and tourists alike.
The Hotel backs onto the Muir of Dinnet Nature reserve which is well known for its natural beauty and wild life and makes excellent walking. An easy walk around Loch Kinord, from where the hotel gets its name, is a good way to spend half a day in the country. Some of the other local walks can be found under the activities section.
South from the hotel is the famous River Dee which flows through the Royal Estate of Balmoral 10 miles up stream. Because of the Royal connection, the river is still a quite exclusive salmon fishing location.
The hotel is situated in the tiny village of Dinnet which is located mid way between the villages of Ballater and Aboyne. Ballater is well known for its Royal customers, with many of the shops displaying Crests of various members of the Royal Family.
Aberdeen city is only 35 miles away, following the course of the River Dee to its mouth on Aberdeen's sea front. Aberdeen is well known for its oil links and is the "Oil Capital of Europe". Aberdeen, therefore, is quite a wealthy city and provides good shopping. Aberdeen is also referred to as "The Granite City" with most of the houses being built from granite stone excavated from a single quarry.
